Say it ain’t so!

Detroit Lions all-star and all around great human being Calvin Johnson (especially by NFL standards) announced today that he is officially retiring from the National Football Leagues.

Johnson released a statement via the Detroit Lions' website earlier today describing his choice to leave.

“Let me assure you that this was not an easy or hasty decision. As I stated, I, along with those closest to me, have put a lot of time, deliberation and prayer into this decision and I truly am at peace with it.”

Johnson has been one of the most influential players on the team during the last 10 years. The 30-year-old played nine seasons, all in Detroit, and goes down as one of the best wide receivers in the team’s history.

His departure is very similar to the way that other guy left the team years ago. Johnson seems to be happy with the decision, but of course Lions fans are not pleased with Johnson’s departure.

We wish our best to you, Calvin Johnson. Just don’t try to play for a different team in a few years. Then people will really be upset.
