We at Metro Times have been fans of Davin Brainard for a long time. Like, we've written about him since the 1990s. We've covered his Noise Camp, his fingernail art series, his poster art, his children's book, and so much more. We even did a slideshow of the paintings he did, currently on display at the UFO Factory. It's called SHINY SHINY, and it's chock-full of his style of pop art.

We bring it up because we hear Brainard will give a gallery talk this weekend. Actually, we hear it'll be more like a conversation between Brainard and Mary Harrison, an independent curator and former director of CPOP, and Ronald Cornelissen, a Dutch artist that Brainard has worked with for 18 years. A question-and-answer period will follow, allowing visitors to participate in an informal conversation with the artist. It takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at UFO Factory, 2110 Trumbull, Detroit; free and open to the public.
