Beacon Park will give away 250 coney dogs during family friendly Detroit Lions tailgate

Despite an incessantly dismal record, many Detroiters still turn out in droves to cheer on the city's football team. And, ok, to be fair, the Lions clinched a rare win against the Green Bay Packers last night, so if there was ever a time to celebrate the team, it's now.

We digress. This Sunday, Beacon Park will host a family friendly, alcohol-free Lions tailgate party and they'll be giving away free coney dogs from American Coney Island to the first 250 attendees.

The park, which opened at Cass Avenue and Grand River in July, is a public space maintained and operated by the Downtown Detroit Partnership and so far programming has included live music and art installations. It will also host overflow events during this year's Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, according to a press release.

While most tailgates are booze-heavy, this one will remain dry so that "families can feel comfortable bringing their children to celebrate and cheer on the Lions before the game."

In addition to free franks, there will also be fire pits, food trucks, music, and games.

The party is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12. Beacon Park is located at 1903 Grand River Ave., Detroit.
