"Spring Girl" by Jason H. Philips

All that glitters is gold. Artist Jason H. Phillips takes the gilded age of expression into 2018 by celebrating the power of women, adorning images in his latest show, "Majesty" with stunning 23-karat gold leaf. The owner of Detroit Ink Spot Tattoo Studio and co-founder of the Black Tattoo Art and Music Expo, Phillips has dedicated his mixed-media approach (and fine arts education) to furthering the conversation regarding the African-American experience. This solo exhibit will highlight Phillips’ “Black Girl Magic” oil painting series along with new works.

Majesty's opening reception begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16; 19556 Grand River Ave., Detroit; 313-293-7344; norwestgallery.com; Event is free.
