In the spirit of the season of giving, metro Detroiters should turn their attention toward local nonprofits doing good in the community. One such nonprofit is SecondChances for Life, a faith-based program for rehabilitating incarcerated men and women and supporting their families.

The nonprofit provides drug rehabilitation, counseling, and community service. During the holidays, the group provides gifts, food, clothes, toys, and household items for the families of those who are incarcerated.

The group has its annual fundraiser for children of incarcerated parents at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15 at St. CeCe's Pub, 1426 Bagley Ave., Detroit. Those who wish to help out can donate money, non-perishable food items, and toys — and enjoy barbecue from the pop-up guest, Smokey Bee's Blessed BBQ.
