The Detroit schools "sickout" protest continued Tuesday with more than 20 schools closing, according to a post to Detroit Public Schools' Facebook page. On Monday, more than 60 schools were closed.
Also on Facebook, an open letter from DPS teacher Pam Namyslowski has gone viral, taking aim at DPS emergency manager Darnell Earley, who was critical of the teacher protests. In the letter, Namyslowski goes on to outline the harrowing conditions — such as crumbling buildings and overcrowded classrooms — in which DPS teachers and students have been forced to work in for years.
The letter has been shared more than 6,500 times since it was posted Friday, Jan. 8.
