Adam Young, the 24-year-old mastermind behind Owl City, never goes too deep. In fact, he barely skims the surface on his third album. "Tiny feathers kiss your face," he sings on opener "The Real World," pretty much tipping you off to the dude's state of mind. With songs about angels, dreams, and butterflies, All Things Bright and Beautiful comes off more like a greeting card from your churchgoing aunt than a record you'll want blasting out of the stereo this summer. But Young has a way with hooks. For all of its gooey sentimentality, All Things is filled with breezy, pleasant synth-pop. Yes, it still sounds like the Postal Service, and for the most part everything plays like a variation on Owl City's breakthrough hit "Fireflies." But just try shaking "Angels," "Honey and the Bee," and "The Yacht Club."
