Oak Park High School

13701 Oak Park Blvd., Oak Park

The school is notable for the class of 1970. The big hit-maker was the late Doug Fieger, who later formed the Knack. But that's not all. Don Fagenson and David Weiss, renamed the Was Brothers, Don and David, formed the quirky, irreverent band Was (Not Was), of "Walk the Dinosaur" fame; the band last reunited to record in 2008. Don Was has also had an illustrious producing career, with artists from Bonnie Raitt to the Rolling Stones. He's been heading up an all-star Detroit revue at the Concert of Colors in recent years and was recently named president of Blue Note Records. Also in the same graduating class was Marcella Levy (aka Marcy Levy and Marcella Detroit) who sang backup with Bob Seger, Leon Russell and Eric Clapton (and was one of Eric Clapton's co-writers on "Lay Down Sally"). Also in that class was Dennis Bowles, a musician and author of a recent book (Dr. Beans Bowles "Fingertips" The Untold Story) on his father, Motown's Beans Bowles. Later attendees included the Bass Brothers producing team of Eminem fame.
