The lead singer of Canadian band the Weakerthans has gone solo with a pack of jams, and you most likely haven't heard anything about it. Too bad because it's extremely easy to listen to and every song's reminiscent of a good Neil Young album. The first few songs are slow going, but it rolls along, and starts getting great by "When I Write My Master's Thesis," — a little nod to Dylan — which name-drops almost every nerdy thing you love. Plus, this isn't overproduced at all. It has the old feel of a folk-garage band. (Is there such a thing?) This album is also great for anyone who likes looking for insight from (poetic) lyrics. Next time you're on a wintery afternoon trip though Canada, listen to this, kick back, and enjoy. —Jarrett Koral
