Dorkwave stays strapped like car seats in 2006, blasting into the New Year from the top of the Pontch. “Proper attire requested,” the flier for the DJ collective’s New Year’s Eve bash reads, adding “whatever this means to you.” Because if you’ve ever been to one of their monthly parties, the fun is in watching an unlikely throng of hipsters, rockers, shift workers, and Saran Wrap-as-shirt enthusiasts all crush at once on the break to, say, Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.” Hate it or love it, it’s an egalitarian throwdown. Dorkwave’s Rob Theakston took time out to talk hog lines, holiday warmth and beats to give you that funny feeling down below.
5. Antony and the Johnsons: One of the more exciting groups to appear live in Detroit in 2005. Breathtaking stuff.
4. Buzzcocks: ibuzz.co.uk — a vibrator that plays in time with your iPod, and the intensity grows the louder you play the music. Ideal for those stuck in construction traffic.

1. Curling: Mark Lazar (DJ and secret leader of the Dorkwave collective) is a professional curler and is a contender for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. Though few of us understand what’s going on, we root him on with great enthusiasm.
