By exposing this potentially malignant cancer, News Hits hopes to be the chemotherapy that saves this otherwise healthy East Side neighborhood. Midnight vandals have set this house at 5203 Bedford ablaze twice in the last four months. Broken glass and the ever-growing weeds overshadow evidence of previous restoration attempts. The backyard has been turned into a branch office of sorts for the Detroit Humane Society: Families of stray animals have moved in and claimed the plot of land as their own.

When asked whether he or any of his friends have entered the house, a neighborhood youngster said, “Oh, sure. All you gotta do is kick down the door.” According to city records, the home’s assessed value is $39,250, hardly a bargain. Though News Hits did its darnedest to track down the owner, all roads led to dead ends. If our readers have any leads, give us a shout. We’d love to inject them with a dose of outrage.
