The 25 best sushi restaurants for takeout in metro Detroit, according to Yelp!

Listen, no one looks cute eating sushi, but that's part of the experience — along with dropping a loaded piece of Volcano roll messily into the perfect mix of soy sauce and eye-watering wasabi before unlocking your jaw to make sure every delicious bit of sauce and crunchy stove makes it in one bite. Though Michigan is not a sushi hotspot (we're more into freshwater, ya dig?), we know our sushi and like most things, everyone has a favorite spot that they want to scream it from the mountain tops about because metro Detroiters have a way of letting their feelings be known. Well, thankfully Yelp! is here to help guide our indecisive stomachs with the colorful experiences of those who lived — and ate — to tell the tale. These are the best places for sushi takeout, according to Yelp! users. (Oh, and no, we have no friggin' idea as to how Noble Fish failed to crack the top 25, but... maybe we'll Yelp! about it.)

“Fat Salmon Sushi - yum! This little hole in the wall is staffed by expert sushi chefs and one efficient waitress and delivers up delicious sushi, sashimi, and nigiri, along with udon bowls and bibimbap. For appetizers my party of four had edamame and shrimp dumplings, which were delicious. We all ordered different entrees. My son-in-law got the nigiri, the fish for which were picked for him by the chefs, my mom got the chicken teriyaki roll, my dad got the shrimp tempura roll, and I got the Fat Salmon special. We all loved our orders. And that is saying something with regard to my mom, who doesn't like sushi. “The bar is set high here at Maru sushi. Been a few times and it never disappoints. A little on the pricey side, but the flavor, variety and presentation topped with the rustic open atmosphere makes it one of the best sushi experiences Detroit has to offer! We started off with the firecracker shrimp appetizer. Large pieces of tempura shrimp dipped and prepared in a orange garlic chili sauce on top of the crunch flakes with leaves of lettuce. You get about six-eight pieces! I always end up getting the sexy bacon and it is delicious! Bacon and sushi? What could be better! Wasabi, garlic paste, and wrapped in soy paper. Definitely a roll to try. Everything on the menu leaves you pondering, some hard decisions to make! “Bangkok 96 never disappoints. Traditional Thai flavors with a minders twist is always a fun thing to experience. I've had some of the other dishes before but this time I wanted to try their most famous concoction, the Pad Thai Roll. It was delicious and flavorful and a fun way to eat pad thai while being at the bar (rather than traditional takeout). I remember the beef and chicken from a previous visit and also great choices. “Utterly scrumptious!Tai Fai has become my favorite sushi take out spot. The location is carry out only and sits on the corner of a strip of stores. It's super convenient because this area of 9 Mile is more residential and not nearly as populated as it is just a half-mile up the road. There is plenty of parking in the adjacent lot. Service is fast and courteous. The menu is extensive with soups, lettuce wraps, crab wontons, tempura green beans, seaweed salad, spring rolls and my favorite...sushi...lots of sushi! I've had the regular California roll and the spicy tuna roll. However, I really enjoy the more complex specialty rolls. The Yam Yam roll - salmon, tuna, avocado, cucumber & cream cheese is a deep fried tempura treat.Another goodie is the Spider roll with soft shell crab cucumber, cream cheese, avocado, mayo and sweet sauce. However my favorite thing on the menu is the Baked Avocado, a dreamy combination. They take an avocado and stuff it with crab and cream cheese, it's topped with sweet sauce and crunchies then baked.
