Detroit’s MLK Day rally gathered community to denounce war
Detroit’s 21st Annual MLK Day Rally and March took place on a frigid Monday at St. Matthew’s-St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church. Among speakers and performers from the Detroit area were UAW International President Shawn Fain and Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who tied today’s issues into Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s struggle. Photos of the civil rights leader accompanied by quotes lined the church walls along with a large banner at the back of the room reading, “MICHIGAN SAYS NO! TO WAR,” honoring Dr. King’s anti-war legacy.
