1920s mansion in Detroit’s Palmer Park hits market for $1.95M — and it’s got some unique history

This historic Palmer Park estate was built in 1928 by Hungarian engineer József Galamb, known for his role in developing Ford’s Model T and Model M. In the 9,305-square-foot residence, no two rooms are the same, utilizing a mix of materials, colors, and shapes.

Much of the custom woodwork in the home was imported from Hungary, as well as the built-in basement bar and one-of-a-kind chandeliers. The home also features two walk-in vaults, four fireplaces, a beautiful library, an eight-person jacuzzi, a billiard room, and more.

The residence sits on a double lot with a gated entrance and a driveway leading to a detached four-car garage. It features an Olympic-sized pool, a custom fountain, and an impressive sculpture from the Renaissance Center, surrounded by a fence with built-in speakers.

After the Ford engineer lived in the house, its second owner was Donald Emanuel, who established the largest Black-owned construction management firm in Michigan.

The price of the mansion has decreased by $50,000 since it was first listed at $2 million last month. The specific address of the property is undisclosed.
