A list of reasons to get you up on two wheels this summer

Tour de Troit. This annual event takes thousands of riders on an epic tour of the city, allowing riders to take over the streets of the Motor City with the help of a police escort. Last year's event attracted more than 4,400 cyclists to the two rides - the metric century for experienced bikers and the leisurely paced 40-mile main event for the rest of us. Funds from the ride support the Southwest Detroit Greenlink; after the ride, enjoy refreshments and eats in Roosevelt Park. Roosevelt Park, 2200 Michigan Ave., Detroit. $35 until June 30. (9/15)
Tree Farm Relay Race. A four-person relay race, perfect for relay and endurance race newbies, as well as experienced riders. The course features plenty of hills, passing zones and other fun treats. Velodrome at Bloomer Park. Hosts races, open riding for track pass holders, training rides and "Track 101" classes for new velodrome riders. A complete schedule can be found at velodromeatbloomerpark.com. Bloomer Park, 345 John R Rd., Rochester Hills, 248-656-4673. (Ongoing)
Wheelhouse Bike Tours. This riverfront bike shop hosts tours every weekend, as well as the occassional mid-week jaunt. Tours cover a wide variety of locations and subject matter, and most are suited for any skill level. Tours include Hamtramck, urban agriculture, public art, churches of Poletown, Eastern Market and more. See wheelhousedetroit.com for info and to reserve your spot - tours fill up fast. Youth Rides. Weekly rides for cyclists between the ages of 11 and 16. Adult chaperones take the up-and-coming cruisers on a tour of city streets. Permission slips and helmets required.
