Detroit Public Square: Readers' Choice
Best Person to Fill Carl Levin's Senate Seat
Published: April 9, 2014
Carl Levin’s announcement last year that he would not seek re-election for his Senate seat came as a shock to some. As expected, it was soon cast as an opportunity for Republicans to vote in one of their kin for the first time since 1994. If our readers have their say, Democrats would hang on to the seat with Gary Peters, a longtime state representative, who will face off against one-time GOP state clerk Terri Lynn Land. Peters, who runs a bit to the left of former state Treasurer Andy Dillon, has been a vocal supporter for regional mass transit. If he wins and manages to boost federal support for transit in metro Detroit, we’d have to admit that’d be a good move.
