This is seriously a big deal. Not only is genre genius John Carpenter (They Live! The Thing! Escape from Fucking New York!) making his own kickass music independent of his films for the exemplary Sacred Bones label, but he's touring the US in support of his second album of non soundtrack music — and coming to Detroit, where he'll perform after a special showing of Escape! This will be better than three July Fourth celebrations all at once.

The show is set for July 15, and is billed as 'John Carpenter: Live Retrospective,' at the Cathedral Theatre at the Masonic Temple; tickets are $35-$75, and just went on sale today — get yours here. We'll have an exclusive interview with Carpenter the week of the event, which is likely to sell out.
