Legos — the little plastic brick toy pieces that have allowed the imagination of millions of children to come alive — will now be used to emulate some of the most popular landmarks and cultural staples in metro Detroit.
As the 32,000-square-foot Legoland Discovery Center Michigan gears up to open at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in spring 2016, management is seeking ideas for local landmarks that should be featured as part of their Motor City "Miniland."
The first round of voting will allow Lego lovers to write-in their favorite landmarks via Legoland's Facebook page. Voting started Monday, Oct. 12 and ends Monday, Oct. 26.
“We are thrilled to invite Lego fans and members of the public to participate in creating our very own Miniland exhibit,” says general manager Hayley Anderson in a release. “We know that the completed Miniland will be a spectacular showpiece that represents the places we love most about metro Detroit and Michigan, and will inspire families and visitors from across the region.”
The top ten most popular landmarks will be announced on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and a final top landmark will be determined through a second round of voting, running from Monday, Nov. 2, through Monday, Nov. 16.
The winning landmark will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 18, and will be unveiled in the spring of next year, prior to the Legoland Discovery Center Michigan's grand opening at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills, Mich.
