Influential Italian horror director Dario Argento has announced his next film, titled The Sandman, and the titular serial killer will be played by none other than Iggy Pop.

According to the film's Indiegogo site:

Maybe other places, you've heard about other kinds of Sandmen — forget everything you've heard. This guy doesn’t put sand in your eyes so you drift peacefully to sleep — don't you wish! This Sandman is the real deal, going back to the dark, original German legend: the real Sandman was someone who stole the eyes of any children that wouldn’t just close them and go to sleep ... then he'd go feed them to his hungry children on the moon. Try telling that version to the kiddies next time they won't go to bed, and see where it gets you!

Who better than The Godfather of Punk to give life and voice to The Maestro’s latest song of horror? Does anything need to be said about the extraordinary musical career of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer who gave the world such timeless songs as “Lust For Life,” “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” “The Passenger,” and “Candy?” In his acting career, he has previously collaborated with the likes of Jim Jarmusch and John Waters — but is there any more natural, inevitable pairing than the frontman of The Stooges and the visionary of Suspira to create an all-out assault on the senses?

It will be interesting to see Iggy in a creepy role. We liked him in Cry-Baby:
